The hook-up that actually pays!

Hey everyone! OK so I've been gone way too long! I am very sorry and I'm also sorry for that last post....which was a total rant and rave....I was having a moment. But I'm back and of course with some great info-as always! So there's this great site called StudioTraxx which is an "online studio musician-for-hire collaboration service." In other words, this site allows those who make music meet those who need music for a project or collaboration...not to mention getting paid as well. Talk about the hook-up! But you have to see it for yourself! So as always, click on the title and go get paid for doing what you do best!

Not so new

Usually I post an article I've come across or link that I would think you my reader(s) would be interested in but not today. The theme for this post is REJECTION. As someone who definitely wants to be part of this field we call the music industry, I've learned that rejection is behind every corner and comes with the territory. I've also learned that unfortunately once you think you've met someone who is going to help you and perhaps take you under their wings...they aren't. Which is disappointing because these people or individuals will also give you the impression that they will help you, again they're not. I will not name the people whom I thought would help me because for one that is just wrong and second, I wouldn't want to get sued for bashing these individuals and ruining their so-called good name....mainly I don't want to get sued. (And actually I hear the people you meet know many other people who you will meet...so much for a small world.)

Basically I met someone big and even had the chance to volunteer the whole day for this person. I was fortunate that this person than lead me to some other very important people for an interview, which I had no idea would happen, honestly. I met these people, and one of these persons gave me the impression...no said he/she would forward my resume onto someone else and even another person. So I thought great, its finally happening! Yeah right! I later contact these individuals for their summer "jobs" (hint: I don't mean job job; if you're an artist or in a band, what do you do to get your music acknowledged and recognized?) and turns out they're all filled up?! Well, guess what I found out later on from a very good friend of mine who sent me a message on myspace and said "hey isn't this want you're looking for?" In my inbox was a cut and paste of a post from craigslist with the boss of the "job-job" asking for interns who happens to work with the individuals I'm talking about! Basically these people had my resume on file and never gave it to this person! Apparently during the so-called interview I was doing great, or thought I was to be asked to send one of these people a resume via email but they just happened to forget to forward it on to the boss.

Now you're probably thinking I'm whining but I'm really PISSED OFF and disappointed because I felt these people led me on when they should have told me the truth, I know the truth hurts but I'd rather hear the truth than later find out I was lied to...more like betrayed. So kiddies if you think you're the only one not making it or meeting the right people, don't feel left out because even when you meet the right people...their true colors show. Apparently dedication, hard work or even a FUCKING degree can't get you anywhere now can it?

Ok...

so I usually explain why the hell I've been M.I.A. (missing in action for those of you who don't know what that means) and I gave no explaination whatsoever! Sorry...basically I've been busy because I'm moving to the Big Apple for an internship with a record label. And I know there are plenty of you out there looking for internships as well within this field so here's one site that could always use interns...I'm sure. Fanscape.com has marketing positions for interns who are dead serious about this field we call the music industry. Of course you must be willing to relocate to the L.A. area, have a STRONG interest in the field...and be a student. So if you're all 3...get packing! Well send in your resume first....good luck!

Show some love for....

AP! That's right kiddies! In case you didn't know Alternative Press has podcasts available on iTunes and covers everything from the bands you LOVE...and need to know about...to info within the biz! So get those iPods out and start syncing! Oh, did I mention you can subscribe for free?

Jammin'

Ok ok I know I said I'd be on top of things...sorry but I am graduating next month, in the process of writing two papers, planning a dinner and attending 3 awards ceremony/dinners by the time I'm done with school *wipes head*. Anyhoo, I don't know if anyone has heard of Si tv or not, but it is a channel that can be seen on the dish. Sorry cable users. One of its shows is called Jammin on Stage where bands are mentored by some of the biggest names in the industry, can anyone say Joan Jett? Back to my point, you, as in all you bands out there, have the chance to win $10,000 and get featured on the show. The catch: you have to sign up with the site, upload some vid clips and even get to sell your tunes online. Check it out and good luck!

Happy New Year!

Hey everyone! Happy New Year! Well I am so sorry for not updating my blog...my apologies. But I thought this might interest you, specifically the teckies, if not someone. So mtvU and Cisco have collaborated and are holding a contest for students that create a movie short, game and anything "we didn't think of or something never seen before." But here's the kicker kids, it has to be submitted via broadband...or the Net in other words. A student or groups of students will be awarded grants. Good luck and many blessings for the new year!
